Facial hair transplant

A facial hair transplant is a relatively minor surgical procedure, and it’s function is to transfer scalp hair into existing facial hair, to add density to areas in which it is lacking.  There is more than one sole procedure that can be carried out to enable the facial hair transplant to be a success, however the preferred method is usually a FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) procedure.

How does facial hair transplatation work?

Similar to FUE scalp transplantation methods, hair follicles are extracted from the rear of the neck and sides of the scalp, or “permanent zones”, with a specialized 1-mm needle that has been developed specifically for this purpose.  Once these follicles have been obtained, the procedure, like with the scalp transplantation of hair, are implanted into the facial zones giving the area a plentiful and denser facial hair.  Care and attention is taken to ensure that those hair follicles are strategically placed at correct angles to ensure a correct and comfortable future facial hair growth and to  guarantee a natural feel and look.

A surgical facial transplant is completely non-invasive medical procedure and is performed under a simple local anesthetic and can last for up to five hours, dependent on the number of grafts required. Generally, as with all non-invasive medical intervention, the result is a more comfortable experience alongside a quicker recovery time and typically, a short hospital stay of a couple of days is sufficient.

What about new hair growth?

At around the four week period after the facial hair transplant has been performed, the transplanted facial hair will begin to shed a little.  However, after that period, there is a re-growth at around the three or four month mark.  Thereinafter, the re-growth will become more typical of usual facial hair re-growth and will require the standard grooming and shaving that is typical of regular facial hair.

Are there any risks involved?

The risks that are involved with a facial hair transplant are no greater than any other minor medical procedure that will involve a local anesthetic.  There will be certain amount of discomfort, as with any surgical procedure, generally around the donor and recipient zones pertaining to the facial hair transplant surgery.
