Hair transplants are common the world over, and are not autonomous to any ethnicities or gender. Hair loss and balding is a common problem and it’s global, crossing all boundaries of ethnicity  However, what you may not be aware about is that certain hair transplant types are more suited to certain ethnic identites than others.

To give examples of differing hair types in relation to differing enthic particularities, Asian hair possesses the absolute broadest and thickest of all of the scalp follicles that you’ll find amongst any of the variable descendent groups.  Yet alternatively Hispanic ancestry and genetics are not only rich but they are also mildly complex in the hair’s architecture.  In turn, African American hair characteristics are completely different, yet again, with a curved c formation forming a curl that renders the follicle angle different to it’s other ethnic counterparts.

In essence, each hair type has it’s very own and unique identity, however, overall we can attribute and attain certain hair transplant measures in conjunction with certain ethnicities.

Caucasian hair transplants

In a nutshell, Caucasian’s will probably be the recipient of the widest choice available to them when you delve into the world of restorative hair surgery.  Their follicles are the most malleable, rendering them the easiest to work with.  This being said, what exactly are the options available?

FUT hair transplantation

A Follicular Unit Transplant, or FUT, is where hair is transplanted from zones that are less receptive to the balding process called permanent zones.  Your surgeon will take small follicular units from these permanent zones and will then proceed to use microdissection techniques to separate those strips into individual units.  Once prepared, those individual units are then implanted and grafted onto the dedicated and beneficiary zones in question.

FUE hair transplantation

Follicular Unit Extraction, also known as FUE is a decidedly complex, technical and intricate form of hair transplantation that, as with the FUT process, uses permanent zones as the donor site.  However, rather than using strips and microdissecting areas, a specialized instrument in the form of a 1 -mm needle, specifically designed for the process, extract individual follicles and then graft them, thereinafter, into the problem areas.

Robotic hair transplantation

As we are aware, FUE surgeons use a needle that is 1 -mm to extract the hair follicles individually before transplanting them into the recipient site.  A robotic hair transplant uses the ARTAS® robotic technique to perform the operation in place of the manual work of the surgeon and works in the same way as an FUE surgeon would, yet with even more unprecedented precision and speed.
